Shamefully, I am not very good at taking in current affairs while they are still current. I don't watch enough TV news and don't sit down with the paper often enough BUT I AM quite good at rooting out *history* books to learn after the fact, especially when the points at issue have their origins in the decline and fall of colonialism.
This book was recommended to me by a couple of folks and Dr Amazon and had been parked up on my wish list for future purchase. Imagine my delight on finding a £2 copy in the WH Smith sale.
The book is written by a white Zimbabean (he might still consider himself Rhodesian) journalist who is travelling in and out of the country mostly to be a good son to aging parents. It gives a super insight into the decline and fall of that country over the last ten years and I now understand exactly what happened and how himself and the "wovits" et al came to destroy what was once such a prosperous nation and economy. Highly recommended.
