Edinburgh Bridges #16 Russell Road.

The weather, the weather. It may well be a mild winter this year but there has been a distinct lack of good light to do my bridge project.
I was walking back from Tynecastle having bought tickets for the League Cup semi for IainC and myself and wandered back to Roseburn along Russell Road. Along here the road runs under the main railway line to the West, running from Haymarket less than a mile to the East of here and although it looks like there are only two bridges one takes East going rail and the other West going, there is another bridge to the back which was only put up last year to take the trams. Through the bridge one can just make some houses, these are built on the site of the Heriot Brewery which for years produced one of the most iconic Scottish lagers until the mid part of the 1990’s when the site was closed and sold for housing. The site was originally built in the 1865 as maltings and storage for John Jeffrey a brewer from the Grassmarket part of the city.

The housing estate is named the Roseburn Maltings which is only slightly less obvious than the first suggestion The Lager Laager
