How broad is the band?!!

Robin and I are looking at houses and the gloss and excitement has worn off as we don't seem to be finding "the one". The reason for this blip is that we always check what the broadband signal is at the address we would be moving to, just to make sure we can download, surf and blip of course, for work and for pleasure. We spend so much time on line we don't want to move to an address and then discover the signal is poor. What is disturbing is how often that appears to be the case. We are actually at the stage of wondering if broadband by satellite might be the way to go.
