What struck my fancy

Road closed

This main road linking Wisbech and Littleport frequently floods, we are not too far from the sea but this is freshwater from rivers draining areas further in land. The road is "officially" closed, however, I did see a land rover then a tractor come splashing through.

Normally the road is not flooded and neither is the land either side of it.

To read the gauge go LARGE

PS Historical note: this area of flatland is called The Fens, the tiresome tendency to flood impeded farming and development. As a result the Duke of Bedford and other investors commissioned Cornelius Vermuyden (from The Netherlands) to build a series of drainage channels around 1630.
