Bald Eagle

Penycloddiau

I wanted to take to the hills today. We set off to the Llangwyfan forest for a walk we had done a few years ago. That day we did the walk in deep snow. Today there was no snow only cold, clear blue skies.

We made our way up, through the trees, to the highest point on the walk, the ancient hill fort at Penycloddiau, the largest Iron Age enclosure on the Clywdian Range. We took our lunch at the top where we had commanding views in every direction. To the east we could see Frodsham and Helsby hills and beyond as far as the telescope at Jodrell Bank. To the west we were able to pick out Snowdon. While to the north we could see across to Hilbre and Wirral and beyond we could pick out the iconic buildings of Liverpool.

We made our way back along the contour path which gave us more beautiful views across the Vale of Clwyd. It was on this path that we encountered a group of quad and off road bikers. We met this biker further along the path as he gingerly picked his way through the mud and deep ruts.

A wonderful day. More views here.
