Turnover Bridge
This unusual bridge is on the Erewash Canal, Beeston, Nottingham.
You can see the towpath on the far side where the horses towing the barges walked. The interesting thing about this bridge is that it was used by the horses to cross the canal when the towpath moved from one side of the canal to the other, all without letting go of the towing rope ( and don't ask me why it was so designed and necessary! Someone must have thought it was a good idea!)
The bridge is steeply cambered and cobbled - quite tricky to cross in a car, which I had to do today to get to the sports fields where I was refereeing a football game.
