Thistle Down

By Ethel

Water

O give to me water,
Clear in my glass.
And I will sip slowly,
Letting all flavors pass.

For God has given freely,
To satisfy our debt.
To wash over men's body,
And do away with sweat.

Good water from the spring,
A source of much hope.
Bubbling from the crevice,
Coming down the slope.

Soft water from the clouds,
Refreshing thirsty soil.
And giving the laborer,
Rewards from his toil.

O set before me...water,
Water in the tallest cup.
And with thankfulness within,
Let me slowly...drink it up.

This is a drinking fountain on the campus of the old Albion Normal School in Idaho. It was built in 1893 and was a 'teacher's college'. Closed in 1951.
