tower fountain
i am sorry for two fountain pictures in such a small space of time. this one is the fountain equivalent of holding up the tower of pisa.
fountains are cool. i found out when i was looking up about the fountain in my previous picture that fountains were powered by coal and fire and man before there was electricity. a man had to shovel coal all saturday night so that there was enough pressure to have fountains on the sabbath day - because a man sure must not do anything but gambol on the sabbath.
on this day that was (is still) today i had a change of timetable and so spent a few hours in regent's park. i did a clockwise loop of the outer park, and then went into the inner circle gardens. the first part of the outside contained a lot of ducks, and a sedge of herons. i have never before seen enough herons to constitute a sedge.
i saw a woman walking besides an empty pushchair that was going along at its own pace. i was confused and thought maybe i had found myself in the future where perambulators are sentient, but then as i passed it i saw a small child pushing it. this made me chuckle with relief.
this is getting to be a long and tangential bunch of words but i must add that in my quest to find the collective noun for herons i discovered that this kind of word is called 'a term of venery' and began around the start of the 14th century in a hunting context, usually as a signifier of how dignified and educated the speaker is in using the correct term. there are lots more interesting facts on the wider area of collective nouns (including some discussion on when to pluralise verbs) and 'count nouns' on the wikipedia pages for each but i will stop here sorry.
p.s. also i lost at chess to kit and drank two cups of coffee
