I only ever got round to replacing half the brakes on the sparebike with a sturdier double pair found in the Bike Station, so I conveniently now still have these, ready for assembly in advance of all other components. The cheap pads will still have to be replaced with proper pink rim-friendly ones, especially when the entire point is to prolong the life of the rear wheel.
