Bedtime reading

I am still waiting and hoping for my daughter to develop the love of reading that her father and I both share. We've made good progress with her skills since Christmas thanks to her competitive spirit - she failed to earn a reading certificate at the end of term as she hadn't read enough books. She hated that other kids in her class got certificates and she didn't, so she's been putting loads more effort into her reading since then, and is determined to earn a certificate this term. Suddenly we're not having to nag her to get her to read each night, and what is more she has even started trying to read on her own.

This evening's choice of story was perhaps a little ambitious on her part - her usual reading books have rather fewer words and rather more pictures than this one! But we weren't going to say "no" when she wanted to try, she did well - getting through two pages with no mistakes before she was too tired to continue.
