Unexpected discovery

I had some time to myself this morning thanks to the holiday, so I headed down to a nearby lake to take some pictures with my proper camera. I was crouching down near the water to get a shot of some rocks and I noticed something surprising hidden under a thin layer of snow to my left: a colorful shell.

I haven't spent much time at this lake but it turns out these snail shells are all over the place. I assume it was empty -- I didn't want to disturb it while I was taking my pictures -- but I'd be interested to see how many are around during warmer months.
