Iron Gates Lock
Thick fog surrounded us on the early morning spaniel walk. We went down to the river Ouse and along past the remains of the old Iron Gates lock. These date from 1790 when the Ouse was made navigable as far as Balcombe. Boats were used to carry bricks upstream to build the railway viaduct - which in turn made the navigation uneconomic.
