Get knotted?
I have a strange compulsion.
SHUT UP YOU!
Every time I see a couple of loose tape ends I have to tie this knot, think of Derek, and have a chuckle.
I have had a sort of interest in "bits of string", knots and their ilk for as long as I remember and though I say so myself I'm reasonably competent.
In a previous incarnation I was a school Lab Tech. The husband of my oppo fancied himself as a climber, he may very well have been excellent, but obviously was a dead-loss at knots. One day, in his office, I spotted one of these, and slackened it for scrutiny. In the local parlance "he went bloody radge" : positively convinced that his life relied on it and I'd "knot" be able to re-tie it if slackened. (SOoooooRRY)
Tonight I Googled© (Other thingies are available) "Tape knot".
I found a page which listed about 10 ... informed me that ...
"Climbers need to know remarkably few knots to climb in safety. However those few knots they need to know so well that they can tie them correctly in pitch blackness - which they may well have to do at some point in their climbing career!"
Even that 10 is a bit of a lie/exaggeration: as one is an "Italian Hitch", with nary a knot in sight, while the other is a "Prusik Loop" formed using one of the previously mentioned, true "knots".
Titter ye knot.
