Small things can deliver a big transformation

This is the hotel across the road from my work offices. It's not immediately obvious from the photo, but it's a Travelodge.

In December (3 years since it opened), they started a renovation program. I expected a bit of paint, a new mattress so you didn't feel the springs so much, the plastic rollerblinds tidied up, and it to basically have the same dreary bare feeling it had always had before.

However, the result was a definite surprise.
Rather than just a new mattress, the whole bed is new, and has nice pillows rather than the old 2 inch thick ones. The duvets are actually warm as well.
The horrid blinds are gone, and replaced by colorful real curtains. There is even a matching bed throw.
The lighting seems better, the room colour much less clinical, and there is a picture on the wall.

Its so handy forthe office, but now I don't think of it as cheap, I see it as good value.
