The Folly Inn

Perched on the bank of the River Medina between Cowes and Newport lies the Folly Inn, a pub which is known world wide by visiting yachtsmen and women.

The Folly was reputedly started up in the 1700s by a French smuggling barge selling illegal alcohol after running aground. Such was it's success an Inn has been on the site ever since.

A good way to visit is by water taxi from Cowes taking in the sights of the river on the way to some excellent pub grub. During Cowes week and other events many boats have moorings near the Inn and it becomes an unofficial headquarters for the competing yachtsmen.

During good weather it is a superb place to enjoy a pint or meal on the terrace watching the marine world go by.
