Royal Spoonbills

An early evening wander to the inlet
I came across this tribe of Royal Spoonbills.
These beautiful birds are a recent arrival from Australia.
They feed by walking slowly along the shallows of tidal mud flats
swinging their open bill from side to side to trap tiny organisms,
small fish and frogs in filters along the sides of their bill.
Very clever eh!!!

Ah...If only I had a close up lens.
