Prepped for Prayer

Every Friday, noon prayers hold sway over millions in Turkey who otherwise do not go to mosque. This mosque on the Asian side of Istanbul attracts far more people than it can hold inside, so it lays out prayer rugs in the courtyard and small parking area as well (note the barrier in the foreground). The industrial strength parasol is for hot or rainy days.

Friday sermons will have been vetted each week by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
