Burns for all
We are now well into the "Burns Season" , with Burns suppers and events being held worldwide this weekend and for a few weekends to come.
At lunchtime today I had the great pleasure of being a guest at the Primary 7 Burns lunch held by Rothesay Primary in Mountstuart House on Bute. This is held every year and gives the primary pupils a chance to perform and the secondary pupils in the school hospitality department an opportunity to try out mass catering.
Both did really well, The Haggis,, donated by MacQueens the Butchers of Rothesay , was delicious and well cooked and served and there were great recitations, songs and dances by the pupils (and even by some teachers). The enthusiasm was infectious and I will carry it on to tonight's Burns event in Dunoon and to tomorrow's in Dublin.
How lucky we are to have such a warming cultural feast so early in the New Year, and particularly in this very wet New Year, in the West of Scotland at least, for I drove across Bute to get the ferry after lunch in yet another downpour.
