The oldest Land Army girl in the village

This is Win, she is 92 years old. She went to work in the Cotton Mills of Lancashire when she was 14. She hated it. When World War II broke out she volunteered for the Womens Land Army and ended up working incredibly long hours, 7 days a week and with no holiday for 3 years, on a farm in Somerset. She fell in love with a local lad who took a job in Africa and she followed him out to Uganda and got married there. She reared 2 daughters in various African countries only returning to Somerset upon her husband's retirement. She is a rich source of stories of yesteryear.
