Best. Face. Ever.
I popped into an art shop today whilst on my lunchtime wander and Maggie was sitting behind the counter drinking coffee. She wasn’t serving, she was simply observing. I really wanted to photograph her but, if I’m honest, she scared me a little. I left the shop annoyed with myself because I’m not usually backward at coming forward. I even did my usual evaluation (which usually takes all of 3 seconds) of whether I should go back or not but I didn't. However, a few steps on, I knew I would regret it if I didn’t so, I walked quickly back to the shop before I changed my mind. The conversation went something like this:-
Me: Can I photograph you please?
Maggie: Why?
Me: Well, I’m an amateur, I love street photography and you have such an amazing face. Your lipstick, your scarf, your coat, everything. Please feel free to say “no”.
At this point, I felt as though we were in some sort of stand-off and that if I showed any sign of weakness, I was a goner. So, like the trooper I am, I stood my ground.
Maggie: Go on then.
So I did and this is the result.
I’m going to go back to the shop with a print of the photo because I liked Maggie – I liked her a lot. And I’m so glad she let me photograph her.
