Veteran actor and writer, John Cairney with Hamilton Burns Club President, Sandy Pender at the end of a memorable Anniversary Dinner.

John Cairney 83, was the surprise guest star in a line up of quality local speakers.

When Cairney took to the stage towards the end of a night of great conviviality- a time when sometimes speakers struggle against the 'chatter', there was a hushed silence. Yes, you could have heard a pin drop.

He spoke in his own inimitable style in soft tones of his love of Burns including a poignant rendition.

'My love is like a red red rose,
That's newly sprung in June.........'

I'm sure he had a tear in his eye!

He finished to rousing applause and a standing ovation.

All in all a great night.
