Balham Memorial

I passed through Balham Underground Station today on the way to see 12 Years a Slave at the Clapham Picturehouse.

The ticket hall at Balham has this unassuming memorial to one of the more ghastly episodes of the London Blitz. In October 1940, a German bomb fell on the underground station, rupturing a water main and killing 68 people who were sheltering below.
