Mewstone

Today as the weather was nice I drove into a little village called Wembury, which I found out is part of the administrative district of the South Hams. This is located in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The distinctive feature visible from Wembury Beach is the Mewstone.

This is a triangular island which is currently uninhabited. However in the past, it has served as a prison and a private home, as well as a refuge for local smugglers.

Now the Mewstone and Little Mewstone are bird sanctuarys and access is not permitted to visitors.

The whole coast line was stunning for photography today and a return visit will be in order as the Beach is owned and maintained by the National Trust.

Things to remember for the next trip, Coat, Scarf and tripod!!
