A game of two halves
Today the Gwent Dragons faced Northampton Saints in the LV Cup. It was great to have another Dragons match in the afternoon but the weather would play a big factor in the game. The weather forecast hinted it could be a dry match although the pitch was already saturated. But that wasn't to be as the rain came in before the match had even started.
The game started and the Dragons had the rain on their backs, but that just meant we, as photographers, were facing the rain, and with the wind strong, that just meant the rain kept blowing into our lenses. But that was just one of the challenges of the day. With the wind blowing in our faces we could see a severe weather front coming towards us, then it hit. First the rain came very closely followed by hail. Oh my god did that hurt cold hands and faces, it was so bad they had to stop the match for a few minutes until the weather front had passed. I was soaked through, but luckily enough i had a spare coat in my bag, so a change was in order. Soon the game started for 5 mins and then it was half time. The Dragons lead 16-15.
During halftime the weather changed dramatically, the wind dropped and the sun came out to shine on the rest of the game. But unfortunately that just helped the Saints see more clearly what they had to do. Each time they had a chance they seemed to score, each time we did, we just didn't. But it was an eventful day and i was just glad to get back home, dry out and warm up. Just looking forward to the next time.
