The Warmup

We had our choral performance today. I've been in my share of music recitals over the years, and I'm beginning to think there is some indescribable force present in the last moments just preceding a show. It's this force that somehow galvanizes us and pulls into sharp focus all the work we have done leading up to this moment.

Today, we gathered early at the church, our excitement palpable but contained. We had a great warmup and soloists got some extra practice in. Slowly, our guests began to arrive, and soon afterwards, it was time. We stood, ready to walk on, when Ann, our director, spoke again and filled us with words of inspiration as only she can. Words that put some wind beneath our wings.

Then, at last --- we were on.
