Australia Day

Today I celebrated Australia Day by reading the newspaper. I found it incredibly uplifting to read a little about all those who have won an award. Each Australia Day we identify an Australian of the Year, a Young Australian of the Year, a Senior Australian and a Local Hero. These are selected from state award winners.
Over recent years we have had Australians of the Year of great caliber who have focused our attention on the area of their involvement. For example, last year we had Ita Buttrose who provided us with insight into the issue of dementia. This year's Australian of the Year is Adam Goodes who is a high profile footballer but, as an indigenous Australian, he has done much to improve our racial attitudes. I think Adam has an enormous potential and I am hoping this allows him to have a long term and lasting influence.
