Vitudurum
Nestled within the industrial city and on its outskirts, the integrated bike paths and walking trails give immediate access to the many green spaces of Winterthur. The Roman settlement of Vitudurum was built here in the suburb of Oberwinterthur, giving the modern city its name. In 1989 its enlightened urban planning won it the Wakker Prize awarded annually by the Swiss Heritage Society (Schweizer Heimatschutz) to a commune which has harmonised its historic heritage with the need for modern development. This view is just ten minutes walk from my house.
