Return to Pitstone!
I was so pleased to have found a new place to walk from yesterdays meeting with Pat that I persuaded Matt that we should go again today!
The sun shone, the rain kept away but it was rather blowy! We ventured over the hill again but turned right a the top rather than left and this gave good views of the old Pitstone Cement works. The buildings of the works have been removed and one part of the works is now one of BBOWT flagship reserves called College Lake, it is well worth a visit to walk round the lake to see all the birds and wildlife that thrives there. It has recently had a new visitor centre built which is a very Eco-friendly and attractive building.
Matthew remember there was a picture in The Shell Guide to Buckinghamshire which shows the Cement works still in full swing from a viewpoint similar to this picture. On returning home I dug the book and found the picture which is black and white. The whole book looks like it published in about 1960.......but I was wrong it was published in 1981!
Anyway this is Ted taking in the view from the hill and I have used the 1960's processing button in Picasa.....slightly irrelevant now I know the book was published in 1981 :)
