An ordinary life....

Happy Birthday Rabbie...

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere!
And gie’s a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right gude-willie-waught,
For auld land syne
.

After missing last year’s Burns Supper due to Alan being ill, it was fantastic to be able to attend this year, which is just as well as it was our turn to be host.

Although we are all fans of Rabbie Burns, our Burns Suppers are more to do with friendship and keeping in touch and Burns gives us a good excuse to get together, eat well, drink well and laugh plenty, whilst also celebrating our National Bard. And tonight we did all of that, including fantastic speeches.

It was so great to see this lot and spend time in their company and as I looked round our dining room last night at our dear friends, I marvelled that all these wonderful people came in to our lives as a direct result of Alan having cerebral palsy.

They started off as involved professionals who gave us hope for Alan's future when he was a tiny baby, became work colleagues when David and I both worked at the Craighalbert Centre and in turn became our good friends. The kind of friends who if you were in trouble in the middle of the night, you could ring any one of them and they’d be there for you.

Alan was absolutely beside himself to see everyone and was literally squealing like a girl!

I couldn’t decide which photo to blip so instead of one shot you have three - R’s hubby D in the throes of Addressing the Haggis, a wee dram waiting to be raised in a toast and S’s wee tartan toes.

Oh and note to self – the butcher was right. There was enough haggis to feed 40 never mind 14! But better too much than not enough I say.

Here's tae us,
Wha's like us?
Damn few and they're a'deid!

Roll on Burns Supper 2015! :)))
