It seems that there is often a star theme present in the cinema. The old Odeon on South Clerk Street in Edinburgh apparently had star-esque lights on the ceiling, although I don't remember. I was more of a Cameo girl. It's a tragedy that they shut that cinema down - it is such an amazing building which has just sat empty for a decade. The last time we walked past though, there was some kind of sign up implying that it might be opening as something, but we are not sure what.
Oh wait, the internet is giving us up-to-date info - apparently SuBo's brother is partially reopening it as some kind of venue. He's planning a "complete rejuvenation" says the Evening News. Oh well, you learn something new every day.
Oh wait again - there's more - it has already happened and it shut down 2 months after opening again. Maybe our initial information is not so up-to-date after all. It's the trams all over again.
If anyone in Edinburgh knows anything more.....
Anyway, back to the stars. I suppose it's connected to the fact that it's dark when you watch a film and maybe also the connection between stars in the sky and stars on the screen. A harking back to the old drive-in movie theatres in the US perhaps.
Why am I banging on about this? Well, let me tell you. This is a picture of the star-strewn carpet in our most local cinema, which is brilliant. It's old and tiny and I have no idea how it's still going, but we are very glad it is.
