Tale of a Trail
“Trail” is a term that is relatively new to NZ but has been in use elsewhere in the world for yonks. Something that you followed when walking was referred to as a track but I have to bark that the word “trail” seems a lot better description and altho on our side of the Crown Range we have an organisation concerned with “tracks” on the Queenstown side there is a fantastic network of “trails” which are constructed the same as our “tracks” and include use by mountain bikers who are actually not on mountains at all but tracks or trails which may or may not have hilly bits… Please take note of this as I tend to ask questions later.
This morning our walking group headed off into “dogless” territory so The Boss and ME went trailing to research another bit of the network in the Wakapitipu Basin so we can lead an expedition which ends up at a coffee/icecream shop there sometime.
This is exacting work, involving hi speed large area scanning, close investigation of people with picnic baskets, checking water quality often, investigation of people with picnic baskets, talking to lovely folk on golf carts and did I mention investigation of people……Oh I already mentioned that. We also did a bit of tourism advice to a bunch of folk who escaped from the island across the channel from France and came to NZ in Summer and were thinking of paddling in the Arrow River (or maybe looking for gold).
This particular bit of trail is between Lake Hayes and Arrowtown and it is 40,000 dog steps there and bark (back) which is enough for a compensatory large ice cream for The Boss and some extra grub for ME once I got home, so 'The Question' is……Where was it…The extra Grub that is. Oh sorry sorry I see it. At the bottom of my dish. Right!
Oh and that is A CROP on the right…looked a bit like wheat or some such and was a wonderful colour in the morning light.
