In the drink
...the milkmaid whispering water with no ruck or ripple although it blew great guns and serpents and typhooned the town.
There were hailstones and squalls earlier but by afternoon the boats were just rocking gently in the old harbour of Lower Fishguard 60 years, almost to the day (January 24th 1954), since the very first broadcast of Under Milk Wood, narrated by Richard Burton instead the author, as intended. Dylan Thomas had died only few weeks earlier (November 9th 1953) in New York.
Under Milk Wood never was about this place: it's not known whether Thomas ever visited Lower Fishguard (he only paid a brief visit to the town at all) but it was here that it was filmed in 1971, with Richard Burton starring again. Along with eloquent diction, he and Dylan Thomas shared a love of strong drink which contributed to both their premature deaths.
