Viaduct over Troubled Water

Well it's been a very productive day today. It started with a trip to the Dentist for my annual checkup (Everything was OK, just a quick clean and polish), and then I left my parents and headed off down to Rutland Water. I visited the Bird Reserve there as there was a specialist optics centre there as I wanted some new binoculars as a Christmas present, but I didn't get across there at Christmas as the weather was poor. After some advice and trying out several pairs I made my decision and I am now a proud owner of a new pair. I hope they last as long as my last pair (about 30 years).

After leaving the reserve I headed for the Welland Viaduct which is near Uppingham and it has a magnificent railway viaduct, which has 82 arches 40ft high. I'd heard about it and I think I might have even been over it on a diverted train once, but I was really impressed once I had found my way to it. Unfortunately due to the amount of rain there has been recently alot of the land around the viaduct is flooded, so I was somewhat limited in where I could go to get a picture, so I couldn't get a picture of the full viaduct this time, but it is definitely a place I will come back to when it is a bit drier.

I also saw some Red Kites which I presume must belong to the colony in Rockingham Forest. There were some lovely little villages which I drove through too, with some gorgeous honey coloured stone buildings, very photogenic.

When I got home I even had time to get a hair cut too which has rounded off a very productive day.
