Over here in Golden Bay last year I stumbled on a small area that was simply humming with dozens of tuis and bellbirds gorging themselves on the nectar from whatever plants these are.

On the off-chance they might be there again this year I drove by to see.

Although there weren't as many, and the bellbirds were no where to be seen, the dozen or so tuis that were there put on a fine ehibition for me! Lots of song and squabbles, plenty of ducking and diving between the branches and a good number of confident tuis who seemed happy to come quite close to me (so long as I sat stock still for 10 minutes beforehand!!)

One of my favourite New Zealand birds! Adorable :)
