Weir, Grasmere
First day of the new season, and it started wet, and continued that way. We spent the day at Grasmere and Rydal, including a visit to the cave. I thought this shot of the weir, with a good deal of water surging over it, and the heavy clouds above, summed up the day pretty well. To darken the water a bit at the base of the picture, I used a polarising filter, which helped to increase the contrast between the turbulent areas of the water and the dark parts.
To retain detail in the sky, I used a 0.75 hard-edged ND grad filter, and in processing increased the structure only in the clouds with a silver efex layer.
