Calibrated...
I'm not sure if I'm going to be controversial here but I was sitting on the sofa the other night crocheting away I think just doing my best to drown out the current Celebrity <insert activity><insert panel><insert nasty one on panel> show. It finished and being engrossed in my work left whatever going and the next thing on was Benefits Street. Basically, a fly on the wall thing about a street in Birmingham where 90 odd percent of the residents are claiming benefits.
I found it so interesting when I didn't think I would and found it to be such a contrast to the celebrity something or other that was on before it. It was like the completely opposite side of the story showing you how some people in the country have to live. There was the recovering drug addict who was living without electricity and trying to sort himself out to see his kids. A single mother who had to take a gamble on a prospective job with what would be about half her food budget for the week and the family getting a food bank delivery and being astounded at a 48 pack of weetabix they got.
An awful lot more interesting than 'ooh I fell and hurt ma bum' and certainly a lot closer to home.
