Hubby's home!

Bringing with him a beautiful glossy book full of photographs of the Kashagan oil field, in the Caspian Sea off the coast of Kazakhstan where he works.
The photography is by Giorgio Scala and the satellite images are by Marino Lucarelli.
This two page spread is of D Island the main hub of all the man made Islands.

The write up says ; D Island is sheltered by protection barriers. Outer barriers consist of two phases of construction with strongholds and barrier heads. A stronghold is a cofferdam type structure comprising sheet piled walls with quarry run fills.
The eight outer barrier heads are octagonal shaped cofferdam structures raising five metres above sea level and have a diameter of 35 metres, while the seven inner barrier heads are rectangular shaped with a diameter of 22 metres.

When the sea freezes in the winter there have been sightings and photographs taken of wolves coming onto the Island looking for food! Unfortunately there are no pictures of them in the book, so my husband has been given orders to take one for me !
