For those in peril on the sea

On November 17th, 1877 the 1273 ton American boat the James A Wright ran ashore in a SW gale on the beach at Baleshare. It was travelling from Liverpool to Tybee Island in the USA under ballast. It needs a proper low tide for it to appear but the shape is then complete. In the background of the picture you can just pick out the stern post of the boat so you can get a real idea of the length of the boat.
That said the wreck looks to me more like some jaws of a very large shark - perhaps those on the boat felt as if they had been grabbed by such a creature as the sand held them fast. None of the crew of 18 were harmed but the boat stuck on the beach and as you can see is still there.
I seem to be living on Baleshare at present! Another day to walk on the beach and across the machair as the day has been a decent one.
My ten week archaeology course starts tonight which I am looking forward to. Back at Gearradubh, the trees are still being planted.
