Foundation Stone

This stone is in the wall of what is now Brighton General Hospital. The building was originally a workhouse for the poor of Brighton. Most of the buildings became a hospital in the 1930s. Even as late as the 1960s the association for elderly people of Brighton was one of poverty rather than health.
