Watendlath Tarn

Watendlath comes from Old Norse - vatn-endi-hlaoe meaning 'water end barn'.
863 feet above sea level it sits high between Thirlmere and Borrowdale and is owned by the National Trust. The traditional Lakeland farm is rented out to the farmer as is the herd of Herdwick sheep and they change hands with each tenant. This is the Trusts policy in order to ensure survival of this rare breed.


A very cold bone numbing experience but nevertheless a very pleasant place to be
