Chain-sawing

Over the last week or so a large area of much neglected almond trees have been taken right down to half a metre above the ground, which in turn generates a lot of firewood. But is the hard pruning meant to invigorate the trees, or is it the prelude to uprooting them and planting something else? Time will tell.
