Hallowe'en's Coming...
There used to be a time when a carved turnip, with a bit of a candle pinched from the backup power-cut supply, placed on the window sill on October 31st was more than enough celebration for Halloween. Nowadays though, things are a bit different it would seem.
The best of it is, these trinkets haven't been collected by the two junior Delphwynds; no, these are just some of Mrs Delphwynd's own (ever expanding) personal collection. Just to the side of this are three large plastic boxes full of other Halloween paraphernalia that will no doubt multiply and appear around the house by the time Saturday comes.
A quick 'Google' just now threw up the fact that our modern interpretation of this festival may be derived from the old Celtic festival of Samhain. As far as I can see, this picture is evidence of 'Sam haein'* too much pocket money to spend on plastic tat.
By the way, I was going to comment on the link between the title and the activity that's going on in the foreground here, but as there may be children reading this, I've decided not to. Let's just say that the ghost's goofy grin and the twinkle in the pumpkin's eye seems to indicate that Casper may be getting just that little bit too friendly with the fruity pumpkin.
* Mrs. Delphwynd's first name is Samantha
