Goodbye Belgrave Flyover

In a last hurrah for the flyover, Leicester Critical Mass transversed the structure twice this evening. This is the mass heading north on the first jump. The flyover is closed to traffic at midnight tonight.

Il be sad to see it go, but also recognise the potential for renewal, redevelopment and road space reallocation that can now occur with the clearing of this space. My only concern is that the recent plans I have seen preserve the alignment of the massively oversized roundabout below which is a retrograde vision in comparison to what had earlier been put forward. Most people are predictably predicting "traffic chaos" but the design as it stands is way over capacity anyway, a simple high capacity crossroads would suffice.
