We cyclists prefer not to mix with heavy goods vehicles. Like oil and water. Sometimes we have no choice though.

When we can avoid traffic, like this favourite route of mine across the smaller river in York, or the quiet backstreets running parallel with Euston Road taking me to the city centre from King’s Cross; great.

When we do have to tangle with other mechanised vehicles, Transport for London made an announcement today which may make things a bit safer for us. A ban on HGVs from the centre - unless they have cycle friendly adaptations to their vehicles.

Will kick in later this year. Other cities, take note...
