This is Napier on the east coast of North Island. In 1931 it was devastated by an earthquake in which about 250 people died.

With immense energy and commitment the town was rebuilt in the architecture of that time - Art Deco and today despite some unattractive late 20 century modernisation, it is essentially an unique Art Deco city.

The Masonic building on the left with the canopy is the Emporium Hotel where we had a delightful lunch. And to the right is a chic shop selling clothes from the 20s and 30s styles - this is where Sheil appeared in Many hats etc!!!!

And yes she has a new hat!!!
