Hivernales 10km
This morning I was talked in to doing a local trail race; my first race for 8 months and my first race since my achilles injury. I was reluctant as I've only been back training properly for approx. 4 weeks and don't consider myself to be that fit yet. I trained beforehand as today was supposed to be a long run on my schedule and planned it so that I finished my run about 10 mins before the start of the race and then put in a hard effort during the race and then did an easy 5km straight after the race.
I've never done this before but ended up having a cracking run and felt very strong throughout the race and ended up coming third in a time totally unexpected on one of the toughest hilliest courses I have ever done! The only problem was that they had problems scanning my number at the finish line so my result went totally unrecorded which therefore meant that I missed out on getting on the podium and receiving my prize (I didn't know I'd come third at the time). However I have received an apology this evening and they have viewed the video footage which confirms that I came third so they are now amending the results etc. I was quite upset when I first found out as I never finish in the top three but I suppose these things happen and I'm just happy that they've acknowledged their mistake.
The blip above is what everyone received in their goody bag at the end of the race - a junior hacksaw! The race was sponsored by Brico (our equivalent to B & Q) and there was also a 20% discount voucher off anything of your choice in the local store. It did make me giggle as it's not quite what you'd expect to receive at the end of a race but the gifts will certainly come in handy with regards to the work we're doing in our new house.
The afternoon was spent doing more sorting and packing before we all snuggled on the sofa to watch the movie Turbo - it was great!
