Training School Mistresses
This historical building is located in Derby. Dating from 1851 the plaques above the entrance read 'Diocesan institution for training school mistresses'. The East wing was added in 1895. In 1907 there were 130 students, rising to 200. By 1958 this was up to 400 and the old buildings were only used for teaching. New buildings were built in Mickleover. Male students attended from 1960 onwards. The architect of the building was H I Stevens.
A filler shot taken yesterday but rather apt to have training as my focus today as I administrate the logistics of running 15 FY1 Career Workshops for trainee doctors, running over the next two months, the first of which is being held today in Chesterfield. The building is now used as offices and my husband rented part of it for his business a few years ago.
Louisa asked me whether her headteacher trained here which amused me no end. She said that even on a sunny day the building felt quite eerie and austere.
