Listened to the "In Our Time" podcast about Chaucer.
The presenter, Melvyn Bragg, seemed upset at the views of one of the guest.
Chaucer wrote in "English" during the 1300s, and Chaucer is often understood to be a big factor in the English Language. One guest kept refering to Chaucer's language as "French English", and Melvyn was not happy. He keeps interrupting.
At one moment, some Chaucer poetry is read out. Interesting to hear the pronunciation. This was before "The Great Vowel Shift" when south britain said "town" the way north britain still does. > toon not town.
Dry day, much calmer compared to yesterday. Some huge grey clouds when we started the walk. Then they moved and it was blue sky and lovely light. The tress looked colourful. February is a good month in Edinburgh for lovely light.
Watched the Superbowl last night, am knackered. Well done Seahawks.
Remember Falco-Rock Me Amadeus? (i've been singing many songs in that style today, quite fun)
