The Colourful Celia

I want to give special mention to two of my favourite journals tonight. For people relatively new here it's unlikely that you'll have come across them. There are some real gems here which take some unearthing. The first is Serpent, who has recently been posting some fabulous portraits from India, together with some fascinating accompanying stories. Seeing the colourful characters she's been blipping I've become very aware of how uncolourful we generally are in England. Almost everyone around Market Square is dressed in drab hues, mostly grey punctuated by the odd exciting flash of beige! I have to include myself in this generality too. My dress code this winter has been black trousers, black jacket, and grey shoes. Is this indicative of the reserved nature of English culture?

The second journal I wish to steer you towards is Humans of Leeds. By chance today, ZMT has blipped a very colourful young woman and, quite remarkably, someone I've previously blipped myself. But perhaps that isn't quite so remarkable. When I met her in October she was sporting rainbow colours and stood out a mile, just as she probably did today. Looking for interesting people to photograph we were both naturally drawn in like a moth to a lamp. On my few trips to Leeds I think I've been aware of more confidence and more people prepared to dress to show off their personalities, but they very much remain the exception rather than the rule. The one plus of all this is that when I do see someone sporting a bit of colour I have a good lead-in line! Celia here stood out from the crowd and her personality was every bit as colourful as she looks here. It was a delight to talk to her.
