Recovery at The Plaster House, Tanzania
In Arusha, Tanzania, two children are recovering at 'The Plaster House' following surgery.
Our local partner provides operations for children from rural areas. Young patients recover in the homely environment of the 'Plaster House', where importance is placed on sound nutrition to aid the healing process.
Cases of club foot and cleft lip are common. As is skeletal fluorosis; a debilitating disease which buckles young bones and results from the high levels of naturally occurring fluoride in the Rift Valley. Many local children are also injured by open open fires used for cooking. Burns can result in contractures which restrict limb movement.
